Successful Conclusion of the University of Glasgow Advanced Project Skills Enhancement Program

28-Sep-2025

From July 10 to August 15, 2025, 37 students from Glasgow College and Glasgow College Hainan, UESTC successfully completed the University of Glasgow Summer School Program themed "Advanced Project Skills Enhancement Program". They enhanced their scientific research capabilities through academic exchanges, broadened their international perspectives through cultural experiences, and gained practical wisdom during their study tour.

Navigating the Sea of Knowledge - Emphasizing Both Scientific Research Project Exploration and Cutting-Edge Course Learning

In this exchange program, the University of Glasgow offered as many as 37 scientific research projects, which are closely related to the majors of Electronic Information Engineering, Communication Engineering, and Microelectronics. Students could independently choose projects that interested them, and under the dedicated guidance of research supervisors, they improved their scientific research skills and solved problems encountered in research. In the weekly "project check-in" session, the teachers in charge of the projects tracked the progress of each student, ensuring their students' participation and completion of the projects.

In addition to the rich scientific research projects, the University of Glasgow also carefully arranged a number of academic lectures and laboratory visits. The content covers a variety of cutting-edge technologies such as 5G, radar sensing, and digital twins, as well as multiple soft skills improvement directions including presentation skills and project management. Among them, the course that uses VR equipment to immerse students in learning the rules of the ultra-clean laboratory left a deep impression on many students.

These well-planned activities have greatly expanded the students' knowledge scope and endowed them with valuable practical operation experience. This has undoubtedly laid a solid foundation for their future academic exploration and career paths.

Cultural Exchange - Experiencing British Customs During the Study Tour

Besides the fulfilling scientific research exploration and course learning, the scenery along the way also constitutes an indispensable part of the overseas study tour experience. During the five-week study tour, the University of Glasgow organized two sightseeing trips: At Culzean Castle and Country Park, the unique scenic landscape composed of coasts and woods was refreshing; and the castle, located on a cliff, with its unique geographical location and exquisite architectural style, allowed the students to feel the historical charm of Scotland. At the Glasgow Science Centre, in addition to the unique experience brought by the huge dome screen, the students also felt the materialization of the knowledge they had learned in real life through interaction with the exhibits. These experiences not only enriched the students' academic journey with more diversity, but also broadened their perception and understanding of foreign cultures.

Successful Conclusion - Gaining Achievements and Looking Forward to the Future

In the final week, all students devoted themselves wholeheartedly to the preparation of the final report and presentation. On the morning of August 15, the students conducted the final project achievement display in groups: in the 5-minute speech, they presented the project process and achievements, demonstrating their wisdom and efforts. In the 5-minute Q&A session, the teachers examined the depth of their understanding of the project, promoting the exchange of ideas between teachers and students. During the presentation, the students not only demonstrated excellent teamwork skills but also highlighted their unique contributions in the team, while showing solid professional literacy. After the presentation, the professors of the University of Glasgow highly praised the students' performance and awarded each student a project completion certificate in recognition of their outstanding performance in the project. Among them, 8 students including Xu Huanbo, Li Minglong, and Bing Leyao received special honorary certificates.

Although the five weeks were short, the students gained a lot. From the study of cutting-edge courses to the exploration of scientific research projects, from the inspiration of academic lectures to the practice of laboratory visits, from the experience of British culture to the tempering of study tour life, each experience is was like a bright star, illuminating their path of growth. These experiences have not only improved their academic level but also broadened their international perspective. Looking forward to the future, the students will carry the knowledge, thoughts, and feelings gained at the University of Glasgow, continue to forge ahead on their respective academic paths, and meet new challenges and create more possibilities with more firm beliefs and more enthusiastic passion.
