From March 6 to 7, 2025, Gabrielle Philpot, Deputy Head of Student Registry at the University of Glasgow, led a delegation to Glasgow College Hainan, UESTC in the Hainan Lingang Li'an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone for an exchange visit. Staff from the college’s International Office, Academic Affairs Office, and Student Affairs Office participated in the discussions. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on key topics such as the preparation for the 2025 graduation ceremony and examination processes and standardization, achieving fruitful outcomes.

During the meeting, the college extended a warm welcome to Gabrielle Philpot and her delegation, providing a detailed introduction to the college’s student registration, management processes, and examination administration. Both sides held in-depth consultations on critical matters, including establishing designated personnel to optimize the registration and management processes for Hainan students, implementing a two-way review mechanism for examination papers, and developing a standardized cross-campus grading system. Gabrielle Philpot emphasized, "Teaching quality is the lifeline of cooperative education. Both parties must establish a rigorous examination standard system." She expressed that through joint efforts, a more standardized examination environment would be provided for students, ensuring accurate assessment of their academic performance.

Representatives from the Student Affairs Office then listened to suggestions from the British delegation regarding graduation ceremony preparations. They expressed hope that through close collaboration and early planning, the college’s inaugural graduation ceremony would be meticulously organized. Craig Thomson-Gold, Head of Ceremonial Events Operations at the University of Glasgow, echoed this sentiment and shared insights on the selection considerations for potential ceremony venues visited during the trip, offering numerous constructive suggestions. Both parties decided to establish a joint task force to continuously refine the plan, striving to create a graduation ceremony that blends British academic traditions with Chinese cultural characteristics while highlighting the college’s unique culture and Hainan’s local features, leaving an unforgettable memory for the inaugural graduating class.

During the visit, Gabrielle and her delegation also toured the Hainan Lingang Li'an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone Library, the college’s exclusive building, and the campus’s public laboratory building. They gained a deeper understanding of the college’s development plans and phased achievements while appreciating the beautiful campus scenery. She spoke highly of the college’s construction and development, noting that significant accomplishments in hardware facilities and teaching resources have laid a solid foundation for cultivating international talent.
