University of Glasgow Delegation Visits Glasgow College Hainan to Advance Collaborative Initiatives

A delegation from the University of Glasgow, led by **Deputy Registrar Gabrielle Philpot**, visited Glasgow College Hainan in the Lingshui Li’an International Education Innovation Pilot Zone on March 6–7, 2025. The delegation engaged in productive discussions with representatives from the College’s International Office, Academic Affairs Office, and Student Affairs Office, focusing on **preparations for the 2025 graduation ceremony** and the **standardization of examination processes**.


During the meetings, College staff extended a warm welcome to the delegation and provided a comprehensive overview of student registration, academic management, and examination procedures. Both sides held in-depth consultations on key measures to enhance collaborative operations, including:  

- Designating dedicated contacts to streamline student registration and management processes for Hainan-based students;  

- Establishing a two-way review mechanism for examination papers;  

- Developing a cross-campus standardized grading framework.


Gabrielle Philpot emphasized, “**Teaching quality is the lifeline of our joint educational partnership. It is essential that we build a rigorous and robust examination standards system together.**” She expressed confidence that through continued collaboration, students would benefit from a more standardized assessment environment, ensuring accurate evaluation of academic performance.


Representatives from the Student Affairs Office also discussed proposals from the University of Glasgow regarding the upcoming graduation ceremony. The College emphasized its commitment to careful planning and close cooperation to create a memorable inaugural ceremony for its first graduating cohort.  

**Craig Thomson-Gold**, Head of Events and Ceremonies at the University of Glasgow, shared insights on potential ceremony venues and offered constructive suggestions. Both parties agreed to form a joint working group to refine plans further, aiming to design a ceremony that blends **British academic tradition with Chinese cultural elements**, while also highlighting the unique identity of the College and the local Hainan context.


During their visit, the delegation toured the Pilot Zone Library, the College’s dedicated building, and shared laboratory facilities. They gained insight into the College’s development progress and future plans, while also appreciating the campus’s scenic environment. Ms. Philpot praised the College’s achievements in infrastructure and educational resources, noting the strong foundation laid for cultivating globally competent talent.


This visit marks a significant step forward in planning the College’s first graduation ceremony and refining examination standards. It also reinforces the dynamic partnership between Glasgow College Hainan and the University of Glasgow. The College will continue to strengthen collaboration with its founding partner, enhancing teaching quality and supporting the development of talented graduates with international perspectives, innovative spirit, and practical competence.
